Digital ads power the Internet economy.
It's time to make them better.
Come here to change advertising forever.

Why work on digital advertising?

Advertising is one of the hardest problems in the modern economy.

Many of our favorite Internet sites and television shows depend on advertising revenue, from Facebook to Mad Men. Yet, in spite of the hundreds of billions spent annually worldwide and the tens of billions spent in the US digital advertising market alone, effective advertising is largely an unsolved problem.

It’s a matter of finding the perfect balance between consumer attention and advertisers’ goals, which has largely been elusive to date. This magic equilibrium is a highly technical and artistic problem at a massive scale, since billions of pieces of content and daily viewed ads require a rare combination of skill sets and capabilities that most organizations lack.

What is the PaperG culture like?

We live by values, not by rules.

We are a collective of rule breakers, trail blazers, and problem solvers working to challenge what is possible. We know that execution is the only line separating our vision for the future and what we have today. We are risk-takers, and understand the hardest problems require the most ambitious ideas and the deepest collaboration.

We are flexible, and we are curious. The only hard requirement for any position at PaperG is the ability to learn and grow – we are built for people with the intelligence to solve hard problems and the tenacity and ability to realize their solutions.

What is the work environment like?

We have fun at the PaperG office.

  • Senior Software Engineer - Data (Seattle, WA)

    Overview

The New York Times describes PaperG as "an ad engine to put Mad Men out of business." We're changing how digital ads are created and distributed by automating much of what people thought couldn't be done by computer. Our technology retrieves all relevant content about an advertiser across the web to intelligently design a beautiful set of ads for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices all in under a minute.

    The Job

Do you enjoy writing web services and crunching data? Is building a data visualization system that handles billions of events something that excites you? Do you want to work on a precision measurement instrument that backs the advertisements for some of the world's biggest companies?

If so, come join the Tracking and Reporting team and work on a 24/7 system that's critical to PaperG's success.

We use a mix of programming languages and AWS technologies. RESTful web services for putting data into and pulling data out of the system are written in Node.js. Java, Python and numerous AWS technologies like S3, Kinesis, Redshift and DynamoDB run the internals. EC2 enables us to scale and handle load spikes on the order of hundreds of millions of events in a single day.

We write high quality and well tested code backed by detailed engineering design documents. Suites of API tests and unit tests provide a safety net against regressions. In-depth code reviews are the norm. There's no cutting corners here.

Besides having experience with the programming languages and AWS technologies mentioned above, the ideal candidate also needs to be a cultural fit for PaperG.

    At PaperG:

    • We work in an open office environment. Engineers collaborate heavily by sharing tips and constructive criticism.
    • We ship often. Deploying multiple times a week keeps us agile.
    • We embrace flexible working hours.
    • We host quarterly hackathons which produce amazing ideas.
    • We provide free lunch which offers an opportunity to connect with others on a personal level.

    So what's next?

    • A new data visualization platform which enables customers to quickly see how ad changes lead to more customer conversions.
    • Integration with third party advertising platforms like Facebook.
    • Growth! PaperG is signing larger and larger customers each week. These customers will push the limits of our Tracking and Reporting system. We must be ready.
